Talk about being in hot water. A few weeks back, the driver for the XO of the state run lottery was killed in Prague as hit stepped out of the companies Bentley. Apparently, the hit was a mistake and the real target lived only a few miles away and also drove a Bentley. While the police were investigating they discovered that this guy did the same thing weeks prior. He stabbed a man in downtown Prague thinking it was the Russian businessman he was hired to kill. Second case of mistaken identity! The police caught the clown, who should be thankful. Two screw ups for the mob and I too would be happier to be in jail than on the streets.
OK, so how about some keywords here: Mafia, Murder, Lottery, Russian….why am I not surprised? Now we can add to the list; INCOMPETENT!

OK, fairly large move coming up, I am estimating that total distance is around 8-9,000 km. I wonder how folks did such things prior to the Internet? It’s a daily research, and each day brings a new surprise.

Going down the checklist is comical:

    1. Secured Employment- check
    2. Accommodations - check
    3. Health club - check
    4. Czechs in the area - check
    5. Transportation - check
    6. Women in the area - ouch (this craiglist thing is just creepy)…
    7. Duh Ocean -triple check!

I can take no more, having grown up on Long Island, with the sound on one side and the Atlantic on the other, the beach was a mainstay. A landlocked country for 7 years is more than one should have to endure…

Excellent biking abound and the ocean too, California seems fitting. Having only been there once previously, while a boy in the military (San Diego), I see many things in the area that I have always wanted to see, but never found the time while in the states. Closest and top on the list for sure is Yosemite, but Death Valley, the Grand Canyon, Hollywood, the Redwood Forests, and oh ye, need I forget, the EXCELLENT skiing?!

On the flip side, I noted that this is one of the worst polluted areas in the US. Damn, Prague is so polluted and all I wanted to do is breathe normal air. This article claims that, “The only solution for that is to finish building the highway bypass that will divert traffic away from Prague”, but a diversion of a few miles only equates into the same carbon levels throughout, that’s not the answer…

Interestingly, I noted that in the town of Ústí nad Labem, a few days every year the emergency broadcast system goes off, warning it’s citizens not to go outside at all, for the pollution levels are too high. I’ve never heard of something like that, and that town is only about 45 miles outside of Prague. Does that happen in the states?

I also read that 95% of Yosemite is designated Wilderness, surely the air is different there, no?
