Home to George Lucas and the town that the film “American Graffiti” was based on, Modesto appears at first glance to be like any other small town suburb of America, but it’s not!
In a nutshell, Modesto has been voted the worst town to live in, 3 YEARS RUNNING! These poor folks can’t buy a break, and the mayor trying to rationalize the findings is laughable. Crime ridden unlike anything I’ve seen on the east coast, there have been almost 30 shootings in the past 4 months, all Spanish gang related. Look at the headlines to todays paper…
So, the top 3 stories: Toddler hit by stray bullet in the afternoon, 13 year old dead (this one was at a gas station at noon) and man and woman critical…add to this extremely high pollution and unemployment, coupled with outrageously overpriced homes built like shit, and Modesto is a no brainer: avoid it like a plague…
I don’t consider myself a discriminatory guy in the least, and I knew that this area was primarily Spanish, but these gang bangers are ruining it for all. It’s so nice not to feel trapped. With no wife and no kids, I am as mobile as ever, and feel for those that grew up here and want to remain due to family.
Don’t let the palm trees and non-stop sunny weather delude you, this area sucks! One nice thing though, it is in the middle of many other ‘must see areas’, and access is good. All in all, nice place to visit, but you know the rest. “Muy modesto” (very modest) is a living nightmare for a family. Hell, I’d rather live next to the Bush family and its no secret how much I dislike them! Nice to know I am mobile…:}
