Alaska is absolutely BEAUTIFUL! With another week to go, I don’t want to waste any time blogging, but I sure have been lucky with the wildlife. Moose 5 feet away, Orca’s, brown and black bears, humpbacks, mountain goats, bald eagles, I’ve seen them all already! It isn’t even getting dark until midnight, and even then, it is only like dusk for 3 hours, back to full sunlight at 3 am…so tired, so much to do…great photos all around. I’ll write and post much more upon my return…off to Denali this weekend

So, I am off to Alaska on Friday, flying into Anchorage. This is one of the few states that I have yet to see, and I’m really looking forward to the 16 days there. Bitchin’ part is, peak season starts on June 1st, and prices of everything seems to have doubled. Staying at the Millenium Alaskan Hotel next to the airport, which looks rather cool and boasts the world’s largest and busiest float plane base with more than 800 take-offs and landings on a busy day. On the flip side, this 200 a night hotel makes you pay for WiFi at 10 bucks a day, what dogs….
I can’t believe that they don’t include WiFi in the price. Well, they are going to get an ear full from me on the best practices of the modern day, of course.
I just can’t seem to justify the cost of certain things, for example, if you want a gaureentee to see a Grizzly Bear: 750 USD! You know what, that 750 is better off given to the feed the kids organization, skimming a 20 note off the side so you can enter the Anchorage zoo, where you are sure to see one. Give me a break with the, ‘it’s not in the wild’ jazz, I haven’t the inclination (nor funds) to spend that much on seeing something afar. I’m betting the zoo gets me 10 feet away from one.
Prior to my departure, I would however, like to bitch about our new and improved flying conditions, aka, one bag. Give them an inch, they take a mile, or bag. Luckily for me, it doesn’t go into effect until July 1st, so I can check my two bags on, but for the first time, they claim that a bike box is not a normal bag, and charge a 50 spot each way…hum, Alaska without a full suspension bike?
Anyway, I am sure to take far too many photos, as usual, and will be posting them here. This will give me a good excuse to update my stupid photo gallery, which I’ve be meaning to do for 8 months now…
Betting the King crab and Salmon are killer good
Denali, Chugach, Fjords, white water and the aurora borealis , which I have not seen since I was 18 in Iceland, I am sure this one is going to be a real adventure. Hasten I forget, the massive 20,320-foot-tall Mount McKinley, Alaska is all about unique, amazing sights…wish me luck, I have a tendency to break bones

[...] While it is indisputable that America has some of the worlds most renowned national parks, they vary in size and attractions. I’ve heard of folks that were fortunate enough to go on a National Park tour, where they would stop for a period of time at each. Surely retired or rich, most of us must ‘take em as we can get ‘em. With that in mind, start with the small guys and work your way up. I knew that Yosemite was going to be hard pressed to match Denali, but I didn’t realize how much smaller it was. Again, a really beautiful place, but can’t even come close to Alaska’s beauty. [...]
