We had a great opportunity to change things in this country last week, and failed.

The U.S. Supreme Court released their ruling on the District of Columbia gun ban case. The court ruled that the Second Amendment did guarantee an individual’s right to bear arms, but also went on to say that the government still has the right to control and regulate firearms. The mainstream press is hailing this as a victory for gun owners and a defeat for anti-American gun control advocates. Unfortunately, this is incredibly misleading spin by the mainstream press as the ruling essentially says that the government still has the authority to implement regulations to control who has access to firearms and who doesn’t. The Second Amendment specifically states that the right to bear arms shall not be infringed, yet these egghead Supreme Court Justices have gone out of their way to try to redefine what it actually means.

In a nation where someone dies from a gun related death every 27 minutes, you would think we would have woken up by now. Semi and fully automatic weapons have no place in the home, and only on very rare occasions in a police dept.

I get a personal kick out of the NRA and their philosophy, claiming that I and folks like me couldn’t possibly understand what it is like to live in a city where crime is rampant. Truth of the matter is, I was born and raised just outside of one of the most violet cities in the world, New York, and spent 4 years in the US Navy, and this is the only time in my life that I even held a firearm.

I see no use for these things at all, and certainly our country has suffered greatly from them. Cops in the UK don’t carry guns, ours must, for the criminals have more!

Modesto, the town next to mine, has seen 36 shootings in the past 4 months, with 4 dead kids struck in drive-by’s. The Supreme Court seems to be out of touch with the reality of a day in the life of our average citizens.
