Took a trip down to Santa Cruz this weekend. The beach was nice, and California certainly has some unique marine life, but the best part was the trip home-through the Big Basin Redwood forest, what a blast…

These old growth Redwoods are really a sight to see. Nowhere on the east coast have we anything like this.

Driving there is also a blast, with hair-pin curves to challenge your car…it’s time to get a motorcycle again I think…
The sea lions at Santa Cruz were not to be messed with, especially the fat old male. You can, if brave enough, walk right up to them, but they bite! I guess such close proximity to humans have taught them well…

Kind of strange swimming with a sea lion 10 feet away…

Santa Cruz was also one of the most ‘bike-friendly’ places I’ve seen, with designated paths for anyone on wheels, plus great skate and bike parks for the kids. Biking in Prague was like taking your life into your own hands, cars didn’t give a damn and would readily take out cyclists.

California really does have some real interesting places to see, just not in the location that I am staying! Pics here
