Labor Day weekend and my birthday, so off to the state fair we went. Sacramento was boring, at best, and the state fair was nothing but corn-dogs and goons…that is the last state fair I attend. The weather looked favorable so I drove into SF to see what I missed on the 4th of July.
It really is a nice city, clean and sport friendly. The clear day allowed me to get some great shots of the GG bridge…
(to my bone-head friends, you have to click the photo to enlarge you ding-bats).
When I was a kid, I used to watch a series called, “The Streets of San Francisco” where the car would launch down the streets and slam onto the crossroads with no problem. I used to wonder why the frame to the car never cracked? Anyway, after huffing my butt up to the top of hill, I found great thrill in giving this a go on my bike. 35 MPH+ is no problem going downhill, but each crossroad flattened out so you could catch air….
Much to my surprise, a heard a loud bang and thought to myself, “I am going to face plant it, the tire just blew out”….but it wasn’t the tire, so I imagined I shredded numerous spokes, for the bike was wobbling badly as I tried to lock it up prior to eating road. Unbelievable, the frickin’ frame to the bike busted! Cannondale frames are guaranteed for life, but I can’t believe this happened!
A clean break, obviously from the lack of material in that area. Fortunately, I was only 4 blocks from my hotel and for the first time, I walked away only surprised! Cannondale MUST replace the bike, 100%. I am sure that FEM analysis will prove that area to be weak, and they shouldn’t contest this at all, but now I have to wait for a rep. to come out to see the bike :{
At least I lived through this, it was such a loud cracking noise that I was sure I was looking at more broken bones…
I knew I should have went to Tahoe instead! When I looked at hotwire.com, it seemed like Tahoe’s pricing goes down after Labor day, so its next on the list…anyway, I survived, but now have no bike and doing the tourist thing of buses is not for me. Off to Route 1, over to Stinson beach….damn, the California coast line really is beautiful….
Stinson was clean and the waves large, something I had be longing for…but when I got there the sign stated: “Shark sightings, no swimming” ….urggggg….they allowed us to wade in deep enough to get wet though, damn cold water.
There are so many places in California that are nice, but mostly the State Parks and SF….I hope to find the time to drive the whole coast, but that is no small mission.
All the pics can be found here…
